Mummy’s little helper

Filed under: Uncategorized — yarnbox @ 9:13 pm

So what have you been up to this long weekend? I can not believe we are already we are 2/3 of the way through our weekend.

Saturday: After enjoying a gym session with dad – I had my weekly Mandarin class . All in all a very productive day.

Today was spent at my grand-mother’s. She really enjoys time with Lewis a lot. We got over there in time for lunch and  spent a long afternoon there. Today’s to-do list has been half acomplished- so I think I have done well. I managed to pop down to the supermarket and book shop.

The best highlight would be this evening. For those of you who know me, will know that I am too busy to cook most the time, and for the times I try to cook – it always goes wrong! Well today was different. Gettting home early enough helped. So we ate dinner just past 6, and all the dishes had been done. So I decided to play with Lewis in the garden, on his swing, on his bike, on the bubble machine, with his mini football… water the flowers… it was a lovely evening together. He now really values time spent together – which makes it more worthwhile for me too.

After getting very messy with his bubbles – we headed straight to bath… then as I was sorting out the hairdryer for him – he said “mummy, I have to help you out” and he was dragging his bath towel to the bathroom (over the floor of course) – I said “it’s ok darling – mummy will do it later”, he replied “no – I must help you, mummy!” That was so so so sweet of him! Of course that did mean he now needed a towel change, after he draped his one over the floor – but I was really hit by the fact he insisted on helping me with something! Again – I must say – my baby is growing up too quickly!

With this in mind – I start to question whether if I should go part-time for the rest of this year – until he goes to school full-time at 3?! Part-time would mean a big hit to the household income – but time with him is too precious to be lost – my dilemma.

HOLIDAY discount

Filed under: Uncategorized — yarnbox @ 10:22 pm

I actually forgot that we have a long weekend coming up.

My week so far has been plagued by hospital and GP appointments for me and next week for Lewis. I am hoping to catch my breath soon! Tomorrow is going to be a day when I have taken the morning off to pick up GCSE results with my sister – so it actually works out as a lie-in for me and Lewis. Hence I am still up at 23.30. The poor boy has to wake when ever I do – so I can leave the house on time. Tomorrow will be bonus for me and for him.

As a “thank you” for my dedicated blog readers we have set a HOLIDAY discount. Enter HOLIDAY into the discount field to receive a 20% discount when spending £20 or over. It will be valid from now up until Monday night. So enjoy!

Happy knitters

Filed under: Uncategorized — yarnbox @ 9:31 pm

We really did go the extra mile today when it comes to customer service! We have now managed to help many happy knitters! That got me talking about the ethos and why we went about setting up yarnbox a year ago.

We wanted to fill the niche market, giving luxury yarns AND great customer service – knitting (and crocheting) is a lovable hobby – as such – when buying the equipment (yarns, patterns, needles and hooks etc) should also be part of this enjoyable process. In the past – as a keen knitter myself – I have failed to find a place that provides both luxury items and great service.

I ask the question now – do you think we have acheived what we set out to do?

Nursery for Lewis

Filed under: Uncategorized — yarnbox @ 1:14 pm

We spent the end of last week looking for a suitable Nursery place for Lewis. We visited several – the rooms were either too small or the place looked dirty. Staff un-organised…

Then finally last week – when we weren’t really intending to visit – but just happened to be there – we found a Busy Bee nursery which is a good location for Mum to fit into her school run of the others… The place was spacious, clean and the manageress looked “organised” – if you understand what I mean… We enjoyed the tour and everything else seems fine. So as of September Lewis will be attending two mornings a week to give Mum a break for herself.

This will also be good training for him – so he can get used to a school routine. Hopefully he will also pick up the other essential social skills such as sharing and playing together. At the moment he is full-time with Mum – which gives me a complete peace of mind knowing he is safe and well looked after – but at some stage he will have to fend for himself… I guess this is the time he will leave the protection of Grandma and have to toughen up!

It is a strange feeling being “mum” on the one hand I am nervous that I am dropping him into other people’s hands (not my immediate family) on the other hand I feel I need to train him to be independent. I think I am learning to let go slowly… (maybe…)

A migrane…

Filed under: Uncategorized — yarnbox @ 9:38 pm

Perhaps it is time I throw in the towel and admit that I am over worked and under-rest. A migrane has been hammering my head for 3 days now… At least I managed to have a day off to rest and spend with Lewis.

How do you plan to spend your weekend? Mine will be to sleep off a headache.

Together…

Filed under: Uncategorized — yarnbox @ 8:47 am

The responses I got yesterday was all for together – so together it is! This space will now be used to share about yarns, family, friends and me…

Today is a day set aside dedicated to books. Many new books have been brought out for the Autumn Winter season – it is now a task to update the shop for these.

Baby yarn – all the cream has now sold out, we have more of the other colours left – but not that many – this is also a line that will not be coming back once it has all gone – so make sure you do not miss out.

Together or apart?

Filed under: Uncategorized — yarnbox @ 12:52 pm

I have had a few people suggest I merge the personal blog “yarnboxjojo” with this blog “yarnbox”. Initially I just had the one blog (this one); then thought it might be a good idea to keep them separate (i.e. stuff about family, lewis, day-2-day life all moved to “yarnboxjojo”). But now a few people have suggested re-merging them…

What do you think? (Leave us a comment)
