Louisa Harding

Filed under: Uncategorized — yarnbox @ 5:16 pm

It has been a while since fully updating our Louisa Harding range. Today it is done!

Thanks to Lewis’ 2hr afternoon nap – I have managed to accomplish rather a lot today.

The full Louisa Harding range is now available - do take a peak here. I have only done the yarns – but when I say only – there were 16 to update – so it was an achievement. Her books – as well as many more that have come in will be put on asap.

glisten

This is Glisten – one of my favourites with that gentle shimmer in it. I plan to make Lewis’ santa booties with this shimmer blue rather than the more traditional black… the thought of it already makes me smile.

Now off to do the household chores – it is the weekend afterall!

Perks of the job…

Filed under: Uncategorized — yarnbox @ 12:13 am

In a recent magazine interview – I was asked what do I like most about my job. There are many aspects of it that I like very much. One of which is – yarn samples!

As a perfectionist – I like to be able to sample the yarns – knit with it, crochet with it (albeit – a swatch rather than a jumper), before we formally sign up for it as a line we carry.

Look at these gorgeous samples I have just received:

They are qued to be knitted with. I am now in the midst of my Christmas projects – Gebbies one is almost there. Just started on mum’s one tonight… all fitted into my very very tight schedule!

Silence…

Filed under: Uncategorized — yarnbox @ 6:33 pm

Sorry for the long silence…. we have had a number of things to be getting on with and the poor blog has been neglected.

Advertising: Have you seen our latest adverts – yes – we went on an advertising spreee and spent lots of money on adverts – mostly to bring a Christmas and New Years message to our customers. So I spent a lot of the time – going and back and forth with advert proofs. Let’s Knit got agreed after 5 times, and Simply Knitting got there after 3. Quite an exhusting task – but time well spent.

New lines: after buying in the delicious banana silk – we have two more brands coming in soon, hopefully one will be here before Christmas and the other one soon after that….

Books: we had a books newsletter go out… sadly we can not cover everything – and there are still more new books to be added to the site – they are sitting here waiting for me to put them up. Will keep you posted.

Rowan or not poll – the results are in – and the did somewhat surprise me – but we will not be seeing Rowan for a while. In the meanwhile – so of the lovely suggestions from our seasoned Yarnbox customers will be turning true – so watch this space…

Interview: had a full on interview with Simply Knitting yesterday…. it made me think about Yarn Box and what we have achieved. I am happy to say I think we have done well with our motto “simple luxury” giving 101% customer service at all times (yes I am still often replying to emails litterally at midnight!).

There are more projects in the pipeline – and I hope to be able to share these with you soon!

Happy Knitting for now!

Knitting Noro

Filed under: Uncategorized — yarnbox @ 2:09 pm

Knitting Noro: A Spectrum of 30 Designs by Jane Ellison – a brand new book and a must have for Noro Fans.

The sheer beauty of Noro is that each ball or hank of the exquisite multi-coloured yarn is individually dyed to produce a unique palette of subtle shadings and vivid hues. Because of the colourful nature of the yarns knitting with them is always exciting, as you do not know how and when the colours run into each other. Each knitter creates a truly unique garment every time she knits.

Jane Ellison’s new book features a collection of 30 glorious designs, knit in Noro yarns.

The book is divided into six basic silhouettes, each of which is modified to create four original garments and a few accessories. The result? Simple, figure-flattering silhouettes teamed with bright vibrant colours in designs that you’ll turn to time and time again.

From a relaxed funnel-neck tunic and a zip-front chevron-stitched cardigan to a stripped v-neck pullover and seed-stitched empire dress, each pattern is accompanied by lush photography, clear instructions and a chart indicating how the designer has modified the original pattern.

Though this book is designed for knitters of all skill levels, beginners will find a basics section with contemporary illustrations a great opportunity to learn simple techniques such as casting on, knit and purl. (25,000 words).

It features contemporary garment and accessory designs, and simple patterns to appeal to knitters of all skill levels. It includes all projects knitted with Noro Yarns. Colour photography and easy-to-follow instructions accompany each project.

Debbie Bliss Magazine – Issue 2 Spring Summer 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — yarnbox @ 2:22 pm

Our copies (over 200) of the Debbie Bliss Magazine sold out about 3 weeks ago, and from what some customers are telling me – it has been very difficult now to get hold of a copy for the Issue 1.

We asked DY whether if more will be available – and sadly the response is no more Issue 1.

However – we are now able to take orders for Issue 2 – which is due out mid-late February 2009. You are now able to order this from our shop for delivery in February. As always – we will be sending out the magazines in the order which the orders were placed – so those who order early will get their copies first.

I will update will more information as soon as we have it…
